From Silicon Valley to Real Estate: Why I Built dpiWOW the Way I Did

People are sometimes surprised when they find out I didn't start in real estate. I started in tech.
Before I ever held a real estate license, I was running a computer support company in San Jose, serving over 100 clients across Silicon Valley. My days were spent inside businesses' systems — networks, infrastructure, the unglamorous plumbing that makes everything else work. It's not the background most people picture when they think "real estate broker." But it's the reason I run my business the way I do today.

The pivot nobody plans for

The shift happened almost by accident. A friend asked me to help build the technical infrastructure for a new mortgage and real estate firm — nothing more than a favor, at first. But the deeper I got into that project, the more I saw something most people outside the industry never notice: real estate and mortgage lending are, underneath all the paperwork, systems problems. Data flowing between people who don't talk to each other enough. Processes that could be faster, clearer, and far less stressful for the person actually trying to buy or sell a home.
I was hooked. I went on to earn both my mortgage broker and real estate licenses, which gave me something most agents never get: a 360-degree view of how a deal actually gets financed, structured, and closed — not just listed.
That was more than 22 years and 1,000+ closed homes ago.

Why most agents market like it's 2005

Here's the thing I noticed early, and it's still true today: most agents market a home with a postcard, a yard sign, and an MLS listing, then hope the algorithm and the universe do the rest. That's not a strategy. It's a hope.
My background didn't let me settle for that. I kept thinking like the systems guy I used to be — where's the inefficiency, where's the data being wasted, where's the process that could reach more of the right people with less waste. So instead of relying on the same three tools every other agent uses, I built something different.

What dpiWOW actually is

dpiWOW is the marketing system I engineered specifically to solve that problem — and it's the platform I run every listing and every client search through today. In plain terms, it combines:
Video and drone content that shows a property the way walking through it feels, not just how it photographs
Paid social advertising that puts a listing in front of qualified buyers before it ever shows up in a Google search
Retargeting — the same technology e-commerce companies use to bring shoppers back to a product page, applied to real estate, so buyers who looked at your home once see it again instead of forgetting it existed
SEO and global ad network placement that extends a listing's reach well past the local MLS
None of that is exotic technology on its own. What's different is that most real estate marketing treats these as separate, occasional add-ons — a video here, a boosted post there. I built dpiWOW to run them together, as one system, on every listing, every time. That's the IT mindset: you don't fix a leak once and hope it doesn't happen again. You build the pipe right the first time, for everyone who uses it after you.

The results side of the story

I don't say any of this to sound like a tech pitch. I say it because of what it's produced: over 1,000 homes sold, clients across the Central Valley, Bay Area, and Los Angeles, and — the number I'm proudest of — more than 95% of my business now comes from repeat clients and referrals.
That last number matters more to me than almost anything else. Postcards and open houses get you a transaction. Systems that actually work for people get you a relationship — and people who trust you enough to call you again, or send you their family and friends, are telling you something postcards never will.

Why this extends past selling a home

The same systems thinking that built dpiWOW is why I eventually launched Haven Property Management Group, and why I've personally managed more than 15 ADU construction projects and handled the purchase and renovation of apartment complexes for investor clients. Real estate isn't a single transaction to me — it's a set of interconnected systems: financing, marketing, construction, management, all of it. My IT background taught me to see the whole pipeline, not just the piece directly in front of me. My mortgage license taught me the financing side most agents never fully understand. And two decades of doing this in the Central Valley and Bay Area taught me where those systems tend to break — and how to build around it before they do.

What this means if you're working with me

If you're selling, it means your home isn't marketed with a sign and a prayer — it's run through a system engineered to put it in front of the right buyers, repeatedly, across the channels that actually move people to act.
If you're buying, it means you're working with someone who understands financing and deal structure from the inside, not just the listing sheet.
And if you're investing — in an ADU, a multifamily property, or a portfolio you want managed properly — it means you're working with someone who's actually done the construction and the renovation work, not just read about it.
I didn't set out to become a real estate broker. I set out to fix inefficient systems. It just turned out real estate had plenty of them worth fixing — and I've spent the last 22+ years doing exactly that, one client at a time.
Curious how the dpiWOW approach would work for your home or your next investment? Let's talk.
